The President was briefed on the preparation of Uzbekistan’s oil and gas industry for winter

The President of Uzbekistan discussed measures to prepare the oil and gas industry for the 2026−2027 autumn-winter season. Plans include repairing hundreds of km of gas networks, replacing defective sections of main gas pipelines, creating fuel reserves, and ensuring supplies of liquefied gas.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a report on July 6 on the progress of preparations in the oil and gas industry for the 2026−2027 autumn-winter season, the press service of the head of state reported.

At the presentation, he reviewed measures to ensure the stable supply of energy resources to the population, social facilities and sectors of the economy during the cold period. Mirziyoyev set tasks related to the supply of natural and liquefied gas, the repair of main and regional gas networks, the formation of fuel reserves, and the preparation of emergency repair teams.

Special attention was paid to the gas supply system. Before the start of the season, it is planned to replace 53.7 km of defective sections of main gas pipelines, as well as carry out major repairs of 77 gas compressor units at compressor stations.

To improve gas supply for 220,000 households in 881 mahallas and reduce technological losses, the gas distribution scheme will be switched from a three-stage system to a two-stage system. It is also planned to overhaul and reconstruct 711.9 km of gas networks and 400 gas distribution points.

The issue of supplying the population and social facilities with liquefied gas was considered separately. During the autumn-winter period, 325,700 tons of liquefied gas are planned to be supplied. Of this amount, 8,200 tons will be delivered to 104,700 consumers living in 229 hard-to-reach settlements.

Fuel reserves are also being formed for the upcoming season. For December-January, it is planned to create a reserve of motor gasoline amounting to 120,000 tons (last year the reserve was estimated at 65,000 tons). During the heating season, thermal power plants are expected to receive 4.16 million tons of coal (last year, 4.9 million tons were planned).

Repair work will be carried out at 90 technological units at enterprises within the «Uzbekneftegaz» system. As noted at the presentation, this should ensure the uninterrupted operation of production capacities and a stable supply of energy resources to the population and sectors of the economy.

The President noted that preparations should not be limited only to the oil and gas industry and should be carried out jointly with the energy and utilities sectors. For this purpose, instructions were given to organize the work of the republican and regional commissions, coordinate preparations, and establish constant control over their progress.

Responsible officials were instructed to strictly monitor the implementation of the planned measures, ensure the timely and high-quality completion of preparations for the autumn-winter season, and provide the population and social facilities with a stable supply of natural and liquefied gas and other types of fuel.

In the first five months of this year, gas production amounted to 15.8 billion cubic meters — 14% less, or 2.6 billion cubic meters lower, than in the same period of 2025 (18.4 billion cubic meters). In May, 3.2 billion cubic meters of gas were produced, which is 4.6% lower than in May last year. In April, the monthly decline was 18.8%.

For comparison, production in January-May 2019 reached 25.9 billion cubic meters, which is 10.1 billion cubic meters, or 64%, higher than the current figure.

Coal production in January-May amounted to 1.6 million tons, down 32.5% compared with the same period last year (2.37 million tons). In May, 300,000 tons of coal were produced — 49.9% less than in May 2025. This is one of the sharpest declines among the main types of energy resources.
