A tourist town modeled on the ancient city of Wazir is planned to be built in Khiva

During a trip to the Khorezm region on Monday, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the project of an international tourist town that is planned to be created in Khiva.

Howreportedpress service of the head of state, the project will help reduce the tourist load on the ancient city of Ichan-Kala (included in the UNESCO World Heritage List), create new routes and services for travelers, as well as increase the length of stay of guests in the region.

It is reported that over the past 9 years, 280 hotels and guest houses have been built in Khiva, the hotel stock has increased 4 times, and 11 new tourist sites have been opened. Over the past 5 years, the number of foreign tourists has increased 10 times.

“The town will be built in a harmonious combination of historical heritage and modern urban planning solutions. When developing its architectural concept, the centuries-old urban planning traditions of Khorezm were taken as a basis, including the historical layout and street network of the ancient city of Wazir, which became the first capital of the Khiva Khanate in 1511,” the report notes.

The complex, with a total area of ​​12.3 hectares, will house hotels, a museum with historical and modern exhibits, restaurants of national and international cuisine, retail facilities and service enterprises.

A significant part of the territory will be allocated for green zones, free from automobile traffic, and walking alleys. It is planned to create cascading fountains and internal channels. Canopies with solar panels will be installed in parking lots, the presidential press service reported.

Let us remember that last year the Presidentopenedin Khiva, the tourist complex “Arda Khiva” (“Eternal Khiva”). It is built on 25 hectares on the shore of Lake Gaukkul. It was planned to create green areas around the 150-hectare reservoir.

During the current trip, the head of state alsogave a startconstruction of the tourist complex “Sakhro Yulduzi” (“Star of the Desert”) worth $120 million on an area of ​​26 hectares adjacent to Khiva.
